Equine Assisted Therapy
Equine Assisted Therapy provides a unique opportunity to be vulnerable, explore challenges, connect with yourself in a new way and gain valuable personal insights. Horses are gentle, compassionate animals who have an incredible ability to hold space and make meaningful connections with human companions.
Equine Assisted Therapy has been shown to be a very effective, transformative form of therapy for a wide range of personal and mental health challenges.
‘I want to create a safe, compassionate place in partnership with the horses that nurtures healing, connection and personal growth.’

Equine Assisted Therapy is an experiential approach to therapy and learning where horses are co-facilitators in the therapeutic process. During a session, individuals will engage in a variety of activities with the horses such as: grooming, leading, observing, groundwork, mindful time with the herd and unstructured reflective time with a horse at liberty in an area. Throughout the session, the therapist will support you in processing the observations and insights that arise from both you and the horse(s) during your interactions with them. It has been said that "horses are a mirror to your soul". This is because horses are highly sensitive and attuned to energy, emotions and non-verbal communication. When interacting with horses, they reflect this information back to us in a non-judgmental way. This allows us to develop greater self-awareness of the connection between our mind, body and emotions.

Equine Assisted Therapy has been shown to be a very effective and transformative form of therapy for a wide range of challenges such as anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, self-esteem, addictions and interpersonal challenges.
EAT is also beneficial for those looking to explore personal development, reduce stress and learn more about the connection between our mind, body and emotions.
EAT can be especially helpful for those seeking an alternative to traditional “talk therapy” as being with the horses and in nature helps reduce anxiety and provides immediate feedback
EAT can be especially effective for those who have experienced trauma. This is because Equine Assisted Therapy incorporates many Somatic Experiencing modalities. Somatic Experiencing helps to release energy stored in the body and turn off the “threat systems” in our body (Fight, Flight, Freeze response) which are often associated with trauma and PTSD symptoms. This often leads to reduced stress symptoms, improved emotional regulation and a more balanced nervous system which fosters post-traumatic growth.

The relationship between horses and humans has spanned thousands of years. Horses are sensitive, intelligent and intuitive animals who are very skilled at picking up on the energy and emotions of others. As herd animals, their strong awareness of subtle changes in energy, and in their environments has been key to their survival in the wild. Horses are also masters of living in the moment and have much to teach us about the benefits of mindfulness. Horses respond and react to our way of being in the moment. They are keenly aware of our body language, non-verbal communication, emotions and energy. They then reflect these observations back to us in a non-judgmental way that helps us develop a greater awareness of the connection between our mind, body and emotions. By doing this, horses guide us to to be more present in our lives and help us connect to our most authentic selves.

You do not need to have previous horse experience in order to participate in Equine Assisted Therapy. The horses that we work with are calm and safe and you will be provided with lots of time to get accustomed to being around them. We will also spend time reviewing safety procedures with you prior to your first session. You will likely be surprised how quickly you become comfortable with these amazing animals!
